Todd Pletcher Statement
I got my start in ceramics at Northridge High School in 1998. I immediately fell in love with clay and decided to attempt a career in ceramics. I majored in Ceramics at Goshen College while simultaneously working at Dick Lehman Pottery across town. This dual training was instrumental in broadening my ceramics knowledge and experience.
After graduating in 2005, I moved to Chicago to begin a different chapter in my life. While clay was not at the center of life, I did find ways of staying involved with the ceramics community. I taught night classes at local pottery studios and participated in a number of shows around the area.
In 2010, I decided to move back to clay full time. I began teaching at the University of St Francis and working as a studio potter in any spare time I could find. After a few years of teaching, I felt I was ready to make the jump to being a full-time artist.
I moved back to Indiana in August of 2012 and set up a studio at my home just outside of Goshen. I am happily making work each day in the barn and selling my work out of a number of local locations. While I am still learning a lot each week, things are going very well and I am happy to be doing what I love for a living!
